Although you will not often find Ellie at a desk in the office these days, she is only a phone call or e-mail away and continues to efficiently service her faithful following of long-time clients and their referrals. In the last couple of years, Ellie has proved that working “remotely” is not only possible but also preferable as she can work when clients need her, has fewer interruptions and is not tied to standard business hours.
Cruising is her specialty and in the 42 years she has worked in travel Ellie has cruised around the world and on most of the major cruise lines. These days, river cruising is in high demand and Ellie has explored the Rhine, the Danube and the Mekong River in Vietnam and Cambodia. She has ocean-cruised in Asia, Africa, the South Pacific, Europe and South America as well as the Pacific Coast from the Panama Canal to Alaska. Antarctica, the Arctic and circumnavigating Newfoundland are high on her list of “musts.” Ellie says: “I've been so fortunate to travel the world as part of my job. There are so many places I’d like to go back to, but until I’ve seen the rest of the world, I can’t justify a return visit. Besides cruising, I have travelled over land extensively. I have been to Africa a number of times – from Egypt to Kenya/Tanzania and south to Victoria Falls, Cape Town and South Africa’s Winelands. India was one of my favourite trips – I have never been anywhere more colourful or full of hope; Egypt and Turkey were both amazing and exciting, but somehow renting a villa in Provence and living like a local is still one of my favourite things to do. The most beautiful place I have ever been? That is probably Tahiti and French Polynesia – the landscape is so dramatic and the islands sit like jewels in a turquoise sea.” |
